Camping is a fun and relatively inexpensive way to vacation with your dog. All six New England states offer a variety of camping styles from tent to RV to rustic cabin in a variety of settings including deep woods, lakeside, and ocean view.

As always, it is important to think carefully before taking your dog traveling.  Check out our Should You Travel? page if you are new to dog-friendly travel.

For example, if your camping adventures include afternoons by the pool, leave the dog at home as he won't be allowed.

Before booking a campsite, check out their policies and restrictions.  Rules generally tend toward common sense:
  • Owners must show proof of vaccination.
  • Dogs must remain on a short leash.
  • Dogs must be picked up after.
  • Dogs should not be left alone.
Also, dogs are often restricted from common areas such as pools, beaches, and buildings.  Many campgrounds have breed restrictions, usually including Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and Dobermans.  Visitors to your campsite can not bring their dogs.  Finally, if you and/or your dog are disruptive, you'll be asked to leave.

Now that we've got the rules out of the way, let's go camping!

Does your idea of camping include a fluffy pillow and indoor plumbing?  Check out Dog-Friendly Lodging.  Also check out Dog-Friendly Events and Doggie Destinations to find fun activities.
