Dog-Friendly Lodging

Have you canceled or postponed vacations because you couldn't find someone to care for your dog?

Have you given up on taking trips altogether because you can't bear to leave the dog behind?

Those days are over!  Numerous hotels, motels,  and inns now welcome our canine companions.  Some even cater to them!  That's why we've assembled a listing of dog-friendly lodgings all over New England.  But what does dog-friendly mean?

It's a good question and an important one to consider before booking a room.

Friendly, after all, is a relative term.  Not all lodging establishments define it the same way so it's important to do your homework and ask the right questions before making any commitments. We've assembled a list of questions to help you get started.

We'd like to think it goes without saying but we'll say it anyway - BE A GOOD GUEST!  That means:

  • Follow the rules and restrictions of the place you're staying.
  • Always, always, always pick up your dog's poop - anywhere, everywhere, all the time!
  • Keep your dog leashed on the property and in designated areas as required.  It's respectful to the management and other guests who may not be as comfortable around animals as you are.
  • Keep your pet off of the furniture.
  • Never, ever, ever leave your dog alone in the room.  They tend to get scared and may scratch, bark, whine or howl.

Being a good guest ensures that you and the rest of us will get to enjoy lots of great places with our beloved dogs.  It only takes one bad incident to quickly change dog-friendly to unfriendly!

We'll continue to update as we find new places. Please note that at this time, we opted not to add the big chains.  Nothing personal, we thought we'd start  by supporting smaller, local businesses. Many chains do allow pets so check on their websites.  Let us know if we missed your favorite spot for Spot!
